Guatemala Foreign Minister Carlos Ramiro Martínez Alvarado, asked this Monday, February 24 greater global dialogue in immigration matters when intervening in the UN Human Rights Councilforum where other Latin American members of the United Nations also defended the migrant collective against the growing pressures.
“We consider continuing to encourage global dialogue with the purpose of strengthening international collaboration in immigration matters,” said the head of Guatemalan diplomacy.
That collaboration, he added, must occur “with the due respect for the human rights of all migrants ” and include regional and cooperation strategies that address economic and social aspects, he added.
On the same inaugural day of the Council, the Bolivian President, Luis Alberto Arce, condemned the growing antimigration rhetoric and opted instead for a “solidarity, inclusive and transformative” multilateralism.
Shortly after, Colombia’s foreign minister Laura Sarabia, said in the same forum as “No migrant person is illegal”adding that the decent treatment of this group is the responsibility of the states.

The Guatemalan Minister concluded reaffirming the commitment of the government of his country with the Council and its various mechanisms, “since this forum is a fundamental space to promote surveillance, promotion and protection of the human rights of all people “. EFE
