The 48 cantons of Totonicapán on Tuesday, February 25, issued a statement in which they indicated that they maintain “their commitment to ensure at all times for the well -being of the people of Totonicapán, safeguarding democracy and governance” of their territory.
They added that, in that sense, they see with concern and “reject the constant increase of the prices in the basic basketas well as in the price of propane gas, electricity, fuel, telephone services, among others ”.
They added that this rise to basic services affects the population and directly harms the pockets of the families that fight daily to bring sustenance to their homes.
They affirmed: “We demanded that the Government of Guatemala pay much more attention to the infrastructure of our country; Roads in poor condition, hospitals, health centers and schools where inputs are scarce, are not synonymous with the new spring that was promised to the people ”.
To the suppliers of the products of the basic basket and of electricity, propane gas and telephone services, among others, they were called to reflection, “since, with the constant increases at their prices, they only affect the honest population from Totonicapán and this country ”.
They will seek dialogue
They announced that in the next few days they will seek spaces for dialogue with the service providers and supplies of the basic basket.
“Not reaching an agreement that benefits our population, we will take other measures previously consulted with the Council of Mayors of 48 cantons,” they warned.
