The Unit Against Discrimination Crimes of the Human Rights Prosecutor’s Office of the Public Ministry attended this Thursday, February 27, the Criminal Management of Courts to request the immunity to the deputy Samuel Pérez.

The request to withdraw the right of prejudice is for the incident with Deputy Bequer Chocooj, when Pérez broke a sheet of paper within the parliamentary hemicycle on January 14 during the presentation of the Bernardo Arévalo government report.

That day, the plenary of deputies held a solemn session to swear to the new board of directors of the legislative body and receive from President Arévalo the Government Report, after a year of having reached the presidency.

At the time Arévalo left the Congress, the deputy of Cabal, Bequer Chocooj, tried to approach him to deliver a document, but Pérez prevented him and broke the sheet.

According to Beque Chocooj, which tried to deliver to the ruler was a renunciation letter, so that Arévalo signed it.

Deputy Samuel Pérez in press statements on Thursday indicated that the incident is a “hojicide” and according to him, “the Public Ministry is spending the resources of the People of Guatemala for having broken a sheet, which if I want to pay the deputy Beque Chocooj”

“It seems to me a impudence, especially because it is not because of an issue of ethnolinguistic belonging, it is because he is an exassor of Alan Rodríguez, he is a great corrupt and an incompetent. I believe that the MP should not spend money from the people of Guatemala to waste time on that, especially when it has consistently ignored indigenous peoples and rather has acted against them, I believe that it is time to stop being wasting resources, ”he said.

If you have political differences with me the deputy, you can resolve them here in the plenary and do not have to be going to cry to the Public Ministry to try to resolve it, ”according to Pérez.

“I do not know, I have not been notified of any situation in this regard. However, I am a lawyer, I am respectful of the law, and based on due process is that I will guide all my actions. I have done so, I will continue to do it, ”said Deputy Bequer Chocooj regarding the application against Pérez.
