The Minister of Social Development, Abelardo Pintohe reported on the actions that have been taken after Bus accident under the Belize bridgewhich left 54 deaths on February 10, 2025.
Pinto explained that the Social Household Registry was ordered to evaluate the needs of affected families and coordinate aid.
The data lifting covered 54 homes and 190 peoplewith a majority of single -parent family nuclei led by women.
They identified themselves 26 people with a high level of difficulty in different aspects, declared at a press conference this February 27, 2025.
During the conference, reporters questioned the minister about the financial compensation of Q50 thousand which President Bernardo Arévalo offered.
Pinto clarified that the payment of this compensation is still under analysis, since the commitment arose before the Lack of response from the insurer.
“The Government continues to evaluate this compensation as one of the actions for affected families”he said.
On the support programs, he explained that the Ministry of Development crosses data with other entities, as Secretariat of Social Works of the President of the President (SOSEP) and the Ministry of Health, to define specific interventions.
“We hope to have defined the response earlier next week, and the implementation would take approximately one month,” he said.
He also indicated that, if compensation was approved, the budget would be managed through readjustments or the Ministry of Finance.
