The Mineco received 21 applicant files to integrate directory from the Competition Superintendency

The Ministry of Economy (Mineco), reported that it received 21 files from the applicants to integrate the first directory of the Superintendence of Competition.

The entity was created with Decree 32-2024 containing the Competition Law, and the authorities are in the process of formation of the Board of Directors, which must subsequently choose the first Superintendent.

After the process carried out by the Mineco, among the candidates who passed all the phases, the President of the Republic, Bernardo Arévalo, in the Council of Ministers, must assign a holder to a substitute.

On the other hand, the Congress of the Republic and the Monetary Board are developing their respective processes to designate the directors.

In total, the Board of Directors will settle for three regular directors, and each will have a substitute.

The Mineco announced the list of the 21 people who postulated:

Nine of the applicants also applied in the call made by the Congress of the Republic such as Garoz Martínez, Ochoa Paredes, Bauer Herbruger, Gramajo de León, Yax Tezo, Martínez Villateroro, Rodil Quintana, Contreras Montoya and Majus Wasem.

The way to follow

The next step within the process carried out by the Government is to review the files. Then, they will be transferred to the University chosen by the Mineco authorities, to carry out the different opposition tests. Once the qualifications have been obtained, the House of Studies will analyze and deliver the final results to the Ministry.

Agreement 24-2025 empowers the Mineco to develop and supervise the qualification and evaluation process described in article 30 of Decree 32-2024 Present the President of the Republic in the Council of Ministers, the list of the six best qualified candidates to make the respective appointments in accordance with the law, the institution adds.

The Superintendence of Competition will be an autonomous and decentralized state entity with its own legal personality, in charge of the defense and promotion of free competition, prevention, research and sanction of anti -competitive practices, with powers throughout the national territory, being the higher body of it the Board of Directors, as established in the aforementioned Law.

Congress process

The Congress, through the Economy Commission of that agency, received 38 files, but in the majority there was a need for what was given three days to complete them.

Deputy Jorge Ayala, who presided over this commission during 2024 and until the beginning of this week, informed that only two did not remedy the observations in their files, so 36 continue in the process.

Now the officially list must be published, which is planned to do on Monday, and then start the period of presentation of studs.

Ayala is currently vice president of the Board of Directors of the Congress and a member of the Economy Commission.

The legislative is also about to choose the academic entity to carry out the opposition tests established by law.

MONETARY BOARD PROCESS

The Monetary Board is also carrying out its own process, and established the date of receipt of files for March 10 and 11 at the facilities of the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat).
