Guatemala would be registering an “extraordinary” income of family remittances during February, associated with the Trump effect in the United States for migratory measures adopted in that country.

Álvaro González Ricci, president of the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat) explained that during February a daily income was counted that reached US $ 87 million per day, which would again mean a “acceleration” behavior.

For February 20, an accumulated of US $ 3 29 million had been reported, but this week the bimester will be closed.

“When comparing the first two months with 2024, we would have a 20%growth. Even so, the projection has not been changed, because that depends on the aggressiveness of the migratory policies of the United States, ”said the official during a conference with the Leasing and Factoring union attached to the Guatemalan Chamber of Industry (CIG).

What explains it?

The president of the Central Bank said that this additional flow that has been observed is that Guatemalan migrants before the fear of being detained or deported, which generates that they dispatch more.

“It is an important flow for the country and we observe that exchange stability is being maintained and remains a favorable factor for the population,” he said.

By 2025, an income of US $ 22,800 million is projected, greater than 2024.
