Indigenous authorities show “outrage and resounding rejection” to the increase in salary for deputies.

Guatemala’s indigenous and ancestral authorities on Thursday, March 6, issued a statement to refer to Salary increase that the deputies were prescribed.
“As indigenous peoples that inhabit Guatemala, we express our indignation and resounding rejection of the act of favoring and/or approveing the salary increase of the 160 deputies to the Congress of the Republic,” they said.
They affirmed that this salary increase is a “action of bad faith and mockery against the people of Guatemala.”
At no time, we have seen that they act in favor of the people, everything they do politicize it, use it for personal benefits and are not objective in their intermediations, citations and other attitudes in the actions they perform. Moreover, we have even seen how several of you have an arrogant, abusive attitude, in which you question everything, but never by you are actions in favor of the people.
“You have the power to intermediate and/or mention public officials and servants, but nobody controls them and does what they want, but today, as authorities on behalf of our peoples, we want to make it clear: We will initiate an inspection process to each of the 160 deputed And we will make public knowledge to the people of Guatemala, their abusive performance against the people, ”they warned.
They added that, from their representative organizations, they will demonstrate their outrage and will quote each of the district deputies in their territories and ask them to make administrative and legal efforts so that it is without salary increasing effect.
Each deputy to the individual, and Also those of the Directive, will go from receiving a base salary of Q29 thousand 150 to Q46 thousand 700 per month.
