After a rugged meeting at the White House among the US president, Donald Trump, and his counterpart from Ukraine, Volodimir Zelenski, last week, this last one sent a conciliatory letter to Washington, in which he states that Ukraine is ready to negotiate peace with Russia.
Trump said last Tuesday, during his speech in Congress, that Zelenski informed him that they are prepared to establish peace negotiations with Russia and close an agreement with Washington about their minerals, despite the recent altercation in the White House.
“I have received an important letter from President Zelenski of Ukraine. The letter says: Ukraine is prepared to sit at the negotiating table as soon as possible to achieve lasting peace. Nobody wants peace more than the Ukrainians,” Trump said in a speech before Congress.
“He said: My team and I are willing to work under the firm leadership of President Trump to get a lasting peace. We really value how much the United States has done to help Ukraine maintain his sovereignty and independence,” added the US president in reference to the letter sent by Zelenski.
Trump referred to the theme hours after Zelenski proposed a truce with Russia that stops air and sea attacks and allows to undertake conversations about lasting peace.
In addition, he claimed to be willing to sign an agreement on the exploitation of Ukrainian natural resources by the United States.
The United States had announced on Monday a “pause” in its military aid to Ukraine, and Zelenski said he requested official information about it.
“The early stages could be the release of prisoners and a truce in the sky, with missile prohibition, long -range drones and bombs against civil infrastructure, especially energy, and a truce in the sea immediately, if Russia does the same,” Zelenski said.
He assured that Ukraine is “grateful” with the United States for his military aid, in what seemed to be an answer to Trump’s criticism, who had accused him of ingratitude to Washington for his efforts to end the war, during Friday’s altercation at a injured meeting in the White House.
