On Friday of Dolores is the day it precedes at the beginning of Holy Week with the Palm Sunday.
Initially, this date corresponded to the celebration of the pain of the Mother of God. According to The portal Aciprensathe faithful who retain this devotion are directed to the Virgin under the invocation of Our Lady of Dolores to accompany her in the days before Holy Week.
The Benedictine monk, Father Gabriel Ola, explains that the celebration of the Virgen de los Dolores was transferred to September 15 due to the liturgical reform of the Second Vatican Council. However, he mentions that, “despite this liturgical substitution, in popular piety was that affection for the Virgin Mary and, although on Friday of Dolores it is not a liturgical celebration, the special veneration to the image that represents Mary in her pains in her pains has remained in the heart of the people.”
In 2025, on Friday of Dolores will be April 11. In Guatemala, it is traditionally celebrated with the Dolores strikeorganized by the University of San Carlos de Guatemala.

- Third pain: The loss of Jesus for three days in the temple of Jerusalem, when he was 12 years old.
- Fourth pain: The encounter between mother and son on the way to Calvary.
- Fifth pain: The crucifixion and agony of Jesus Christ.
- Sixth pain: The Virgin Mary receives the lifeless body of Jesus after being lowered from the cross.
- Seventh pain: the burial of Jesus Christ and the loneliness that the Virgin felt after her death.
