Called by Fray Miguel Ángel Murcia due to the expression of the face of Jesus Nazareno and his ability to convey a feeling of peace in times of overwhelming, The image of Jesus of Consuelo will travel streets and avenues of the Historic Center on March 9, on the first Sunday of Lent.
Accompanied by the official march of Jesus of the Consuelo, the procession of warehouse will leave the church the collection, also known as the parish the Holy Name of Jesus, and will visit different points of the capital city on this date, as a memory of its consecration in its 69th anniversary.
With various pious acts of the first Sunday of Lent, began the celebration of Jesus of Consuelo. It was until 1850 when the first processional courtships began towards the temple, a tradition that has endured until today with more than eight hours of travel.
56 shifts participate in the procession, with 70 loaders per turn, who accompany Jesus of Consuelo along with hundreds of devotees.
The procession of velation has been carried out on the first Sunday of Lent as a memory of its consecration. During Holy Week, the procession is held on Saturday before Palm Sunday, known as Saturday of Consuelo.

Consecrated on March 3, 1956, this year the procession will travel part of zones 1 and 2 of Guatemala City on the first Sunday of Lent, taking peace to the parishioners at the beginning of this era of reflection, repentance and consecration.

History of the procession of Jesus of Consuelo: tradition and fervor
In 1850, the image of Jesús Nazareno del Consuelo made his first processional tour of the Recoleto neighborhood, becoming the first procession to incorporate Romans, a tradition that was suspended in 1955.
Initially, the procession was carried out on Palm Sunday, but in 1968 it was transferred to Ramos Saturday, the days that the devotees baptized how the Saturday of Consuelo.
The Anda, carved in Antigua Guatemala, was released in 1987 and has a capacity of 110 loaders, thanks to the increase in devotees. In 1993, the processional tour reached a duration of 12 hours, consolidating as one of the most important manifestations of faith in the city.
