Fourteen girls, boys and adolescents who were rescued from the Lev Tahor sect have been reunified with relatives who complied with the processes established by the Attorney General’s Office (PGN), official sources reported on Monday, March 10.
“On the subject of reunification we have 14 girls, boys and adolescents who have met. Of these, 13 have been precisely at the initiative of the PGN, ”said Julio Saavedra, Attorney General.
He added that the reunification of the minors was achieved through a professional process in which social workers and psychologists participated, who determined that the people who took care of the minors were suitable for it.
“We have concluded that, indeed, these people, despite having been under the submission and controlling behavior of that leadership of the sect, have voluntarily decided to go out and look for how to resume their life projects exercising that free will,” Saavedra added.
In addition, he indicated that the PGN will always privilege reunification, as long as it is guaranteed that the life project of minors is safe from the hand of their parents.
The attorney also reported that on Wednesday, March 12, the processes of final audiences will begin as part of the protection system in favor of children and adolescents.
“In preparation for these definitive audiences, the PGN has been working incessantly in the collection of fundamental evidence,” added the official.
He pointed out that one of the evidence is a cultural expert opinion to the judicures that are in charge of the processes on cultural and fundamental aspects that characterize Lev Tahor and their functioning in Guatemala. In addition, there will be the opinion of an expert in sects worldwide.
