The Inde launched a new project in which it plans to invest Q100 million to install photovoltaic solar panels in rural communities that are currently noticeable from the network of the national interconnected electricity system in the country.
The project consists of the supply, installation and commissioning of photovoltaic systems and is aimed at providing electricity to communities that do not have the service because they are currently isolated from the interconnected electrical system network, because by the cost of construction of a conventional distribution line or network it is not technical and financially feasible its construction, So they will be provided through systems, in this case solar panels.
In the previous administration, a similar project was awarded for Q67 million, but during the current management the National Electrification Institute (INDE) filed a complaint and is in the contract recision phase, according to the institution.
Now, the project is expected to be done in at least two phases. For this, the Inde Board of Directors approved at the March 4, the terms of reference for the invitation to offer for the supply, installation and commissioning of photovoltaic systems in photovoltaic systems in Izabal and Alta Verapaz, two of the departments with the lowest electrical coverage rates in the country.
The date of receipt of offers is next April 22.
According to the institutions of the institution, they recently explained, this figure is contained in the Regulation of Purchases, Hiring and Enagenaciones del Inde and is the same as a tender.
With the project the goal is to install in the year 18 thousand 148 photovoltaic panels For solar energy generation, with the investment of Q100 million, the institution responded through the Communication Office.
And within this, the first phase in question contemplates 6 thousand 123 panels, and with which it will support around 10,700 families during this year.
This new project is designed for the domestic individual services model, that is, each house will be placed its photovoltaic generation system.

The indicated goal corresponds to the first block to attend, it is planned They are considered to tender at least two more blocks, which are in administrative process.
The Minister of Energy and Mines, and President of the Inde, Víctor Hugo Ventura, said that “because of the magnitude it is a very important event, especially since it gives hope to populations that are very far from being able to have a viable solution, beneficial in the short term to have energy in their homes. ”
The official said it will be financed with funds of the index and government funds. He said that as a ministry they will be supervising the event “and we will work to ensure the sustainability of solutions.”
In the previous administration, during the government of Alejandro Giammattei, the photovoltaic project for Alta Verapaz, was awarded to engineering, advice and construction services, SA for Q66 million 984 thousand 993, according to Inde data.
According to the current authorities of the IND indicated last January, that project was for 1,350 photovoltaic honeycombs, which In the review they detected that only 800 had been installed, and that they did not fill the characteristics of the requested equipment.
The process is in contract recision, due to contractual breaches, the Inde responded by consulting the status of that contract.
With the new project they will focus on other communities, because for the previous contract a legal process derived from the complaint filed by the institution in 2024 is still underway.
