The United States Department of Education announced on Tuesday, March 11 that it will fire almost half of its staff, as part of a massive federal official policy.
“Today, the department began a personnel reduction program that affects almost 50 % of its workforce,” he said in a statement. He adds that those affected will go to administrative license from March 21.
These dismissals “reflect the commitment of the Department of Education with efficiency, accountability and the guarantee that resources are deployed where they matter most: with students, parents and teachers,” said Secretary Linda McMahon in the statement.
Last week, several American media advanced that Donald Trump, who has never hidden his desire to suppress the Department of Education, was about to dismantle him.
These media, headed by The Wall Street JournalThey were based on a decree project that orders McMahon to dismantle his own department.
According to the draft of the document, the secretary will be responsible for “taking all necessary measures to facilitate the closure of the Department of Education” as allowed by law.
During his presidential campaign, Trump promised that he would eliminate the Department of Education and transfer their responsibilities to the States, which already have most of the powers in this area. Created in 1979, under the presidency of Democrat Jimmy Carter, the Department of Education cannot be completely dismantled without the approval of a bill that requires 60 votes in the Senate, where Republicans currently occupy 53 seats.
