Judge refuses to reform crimes to the PNC agent linked in death of two people in San Andrés Itzapa

Judge Manolo López rejected on Wednesday, March 12, the request of the Public Ministry (MP) to reform the crimes imputed to the agent of the National Civil Police (PNC) linked to the death of a Canadian and a Guatemalan in San Andrés Itzapa, Chimaltenango.

The judge declared the modification in the case of agent Ángel Mario Roquel Sajbochol, who was linked to criminal proceedings for the crimes of hindering criminal action, breach of duties, denial of help and omission of complaint.

The investigating body requested the modification of crimes by the extrajudicial execution; However, for the judge it was not possible to prove his participation in the crime, although his alleged intervention in the obstruction of the investigation.

Roquel Sajbochol is one of the agents prosecuted by crime against Edin Choc XI and Canadian Nelson Santa María.

Given what the judge, the agent will continue to be prosecuted for the crimes for which he was linked to criminal proceedings.

In April 2024, residents of San Andrés Itzapa caused disturbances in the municipality after the events that occurred.

Given this situation, the neighbors decided to take justice on their own and burned the substation of the PNC in protest.
