“We refer to a psychosomatic disease when the physical symptoms that cause some emotional problems are very frequent and cannot be managed correctly, so they begin to affect the nervous, respiratory or digestive system, among others,” says clinical psychologist Carlos González.

Among the most common are:

  • Histaminosis: It consists of increasing histamine, a substance that is in the muscles and that in excess can cause dizziness, tiredness, muscle pain, digestive problems, etc.

  • Infarcts: A very strong anger or a scare can cause a cardiovascular accident.
  • Chronic fatigue syndrome: It is characterized by having extreme tiredness even after a good break. This disorder can prevent the person from performing their activities normally.
  • Abdominal disorders: It is the set of problems such as irritable colon, bad digestion, constipation, stomach pain, among others. These do not have a physical origin, but can be caused by stress, anger or anxiety.

How to treat psychosomatic diseases?

“Having some previous symptoms, people come with the doctor. This dreams of doing several medical exams and does not determine any physical cause, so it refers to a psychologist. There begins the treatment, ”says Muñoz.

A psychologist will try to find the origin of the disease through therapies. On some occasions, these can be accompanied by tools such as relaxation, mindfulness, practice some sport or have a hobby, have social activity, breathing techniques, among others.
