Firefighters continue with the work to control the fire that is recorded in the AMSA landfill, in km 22 of the Route to the Pacific.

The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported that this Monday, March 17 Fire combat work continues in the landfill of the Authority for Sustainable Management of the Basin and Lake Amatitlán (AMSA), at kilometer 22 of the Route to Pacific.
He added that, during the first day of operations, different response institutions of the Conred system participated, coordinated under the methodology of the incident command system.
He stressed that, as a result, it was reported that the incident is controlled in 45 % and liquidated by 35 %.
He highlighted the use of thermal images with dron by United Firefighters without borders to contribute to the combat strategy, as well as the support of the Guatemalan Red Cross with paramedic personnel for the attention of the relief bodies that require it.
He indicated that favorable atmospheric conditions and efficient inter -institutional coordination were key factors to advance the liquidation of the incident.
The Conred added that the combat tasks continue and that the teams will focus on the suffocation with wet earth and the application of inert material.
In addition, fire gaps will open to avoid the expansion of fire to the wooded area of the sector called Las Pericas.
The Municipal Traffic Police of Villa Nueva informed that the smoke of the fire affects mobility.
