The National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) confirmed this Sunday, March 16 that a fire consumes large amounts of waste in the landfill of the authority for sustainable management of the basin and Lake Amatitlán (AMSA).
“Conred institution institutions fight the fire that is recorded in the AMSA landfill, kilometer 22 of the CA-9, route to Villa Nueva,” Conred said on their social networks.
Sergio Girón, Campo de la Conred, confirmed the incident.
Cecilio Chacaj, spokesman for departmental municipal firefighters, indicated that 1st stations lifeguards work in the place, because the type of combustible material makes intense work necessary.
He explained that firefighters from the stations of San Miguel Petapa, Santa Isabel and Bárcenas participate, and recalled that this type of fire is difficult to control.
For its part, the Municipal Traffic Police of Villa Nueva warned that in kilometer 23 of the Route to the Pacific the smoke reduces visibility, so it called on motorists to travel with caution.
The little visibility continues in the surroundings of km 21 to km 24 CA-9.

For his part, Amsa said that, before the fire in the landfill located in Km 22 of the Route to Pacific, in Villa Nueva, his risk prevention team, personnel of response entities and recycling work to control and extinguish the incident.
These immediate actions seek to guarantee the proper handling of the landfill and protect the security of the community and the environment. AMSA reaffirms its commitment to the responsible management of waste and waste, contributing to environmental sustainability, population health and well -being of the Basin and Lake Amatitlán, says the entity.
