The All Bank filed an amparo in the Constitutional Court (CC) to stop the entry into force of the agreements with which the Government forces all vehicles to have mandatory insurance.

Deputies of the Bank all presented on Tuesday, March 18, an appeal for amparo in the CC against the regulations that They demand that all vehicles have damage insurance to third parties, Judicial sources reported.
Other banks of the Congress of the Republic are expected to present similar actions on Wednesday.
On March 17, the Guatemala government announced that, as of May, all vehicles must have an insurance against third parties in case of accidents, a measure that will force thousands of motorcyclists to hire said service.
The new regulations were detailed in a press conference by the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, who explained that the provision responds to the consequences of traffic accidents, mainly due to the increase in the use of motorcycles in recent years.
The official indicated that, once the measure is entered into force, in 45 days, Guatemala will have “greater controls” on the vehicles that circulate on their roads.
“We are guaranteeing that the next generations do not inherit a country where traffic accidents are a death sentence,” he said.
Third parties insurance was not mandatory in Guatemala According to the current law, except for public transport.
The measure caused that Tuesday, dozens of people blocked important routes in the capital and some of the interior of the country to demand from the government the repeal of the agreements.
“That this constitutional action of amparo promoted against Constitutional President of the Republic of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo de León is admitted for processing, according to the acts claimed in this action and that I needed in the exhibition part of this brief. That provisional protection is granted, and as a positive effect of the same, suspend the indicated government agreements,” says the amparo.
