The head of State Ukranian was willing to suspend attacks on civil and energy infrastructure in Russia, after the Russian president, Vladimir PutinThe energy sector in a telephone conversation with Trump was tempted on Tuesday.
One of the first steps towards the end of the war could be to suspend attacks against energy infrastructure and other civil infrastructure, said the Ukrainian leader in the Network X. He said that in the conversation there was only talk of “a central one, which is under Russian occupation”, that is, that of Zaporiyia, in the southeast.
On the part of Washington, at least in appearance, the tone has clearly softened compared to the open hostility with which the Ukrainian president was recently received by Trump in the White House. “Today I did not feel any pressure. That is a fact,” Zelenski told journalists. In a message in X he described the conversation as “positive, very substantial and frank.”
An official American statement insists that Zelenski, accused of ingratitude by some officials, has “grateful” Trump several times. “I just maintained a very good call with the president of Ukraine (…) Much of the conversation was based on yesterday’s call with President Putin to align the demands and needs of both Russia and Ukraine. We are very well aimed at,” Trump wrote in his social truth network.
The call took place shortly after Russia and Ukraine announced to have exchanged 175 war prisoners of each side.
Anti -aircraft defense
“President Zelenski requested anti -aircraft defense systems (…) and President Trump agreed to work with him to see what had been available, particularly in Europe,” said White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt, at a press conference. He mentioned the Patriot systems and added that “the exchange of military intelligence for the defense of Ukraine” will “continue.”
The United States had temporarily suspended military aid and the exchange of information until kyiv accepted its proposal of high the total fire of 30 days. Ukraine gave up, but Trump was unable to convince Putin.
He did not give details about this new proposal, in tune with his idea of addressing diplomatic issues as if they were commercial transactions.
Trump also promised to act to repatriate Ukrainian children “kidnapped” from the beginning of the Russian invasion in February 2022.
Trump’s two telephone conversations leave many questions without an answer, but it is clear that the Republican no longer speaks of ending the war of a stroke, as he did during the electoral campaign.
Dialogue continues
It is unknown what will happen in the future with Western help to Ukraine. Putin claims to be suspended. Nor is it known whether or not there will be the eventual territorial “cast” mentioned recently by the US president.
The negotiations will continue in Saudi Arabia in the next few days, between Americans and Russians, on the one hand, and US and Ukrainians, on the other. The objective is to first achieve a truce in the Black Sea, followed by a high total fire and, finally, peace negotiations.
On the ground, the fighting continues. The Russian Ministry of Defense reported on a Ukrainian attack during the night to an oil deposit in the Krasnodar region, in southern Russia. Ukraine accounted for six missiles and 145 Russian combat drones.
A man died and three other people were injured in another attack in the Sumy region, in the northeast of Ukraine, against a residential building. In addition, a bombing killed a civilian in Jersón, in the south of the country, on Wednesday morning, according to local authorities.
