Miguel Sud Mejía, 44, died drowned last weekend in Aguas del Lake Atitlán, in San Lucas Tolimán, Sololá, while participating in a baptism organized by a Chichicastenango church, Quiché, the volunteer firefighters reported.
In videos that circulate on social networks, what happened moments before the incident is observed. In the images a group of people in the water are seen and, subsequently, an uproar is generated because one of the participants had difficulty staying afloat.
The volunteer firefighters indicated that they were alerted to what happened, but when the person had already died from suffocation for submersion.
In several points of Lake Atitlán, hundreds of people congregate to participate in baptisms, so the authorities ask to take precautions to avoid these types of situations.
