The monthly index of the economic activity (IMAE) reached 3.4% during January and is greater than 3.2% that was recorded in December 2024 announced a report by the Bank of Guatemala (Banguat). The indicator is less than 4.3% to the same last year.
The IMAE result was influenced by the economic activities of commerce and vehicle repair; financial and insurance activities; real estate activities; manufacturing industries; and, supply of electricity, water and sanitation, according to a report provided by the Central Bank. These activities promoted productive activity in the first month of the year.
The IMAE has the function of measuring the real performance of the economy in the short term, and this time is one of the first indicators that are known after the arrival of new government authorities in the United States and the different decisions they have adopted in the areas of immigration and commercial policy that have generated a climate of global uncertainty.
The authorities have reported that the IMAE observed in January is consistent with the estimation of closing of economic growth, which for this year is 4% as a central value and that is based on drivers to achieve that performance as private consumption, investment and public spending. In mid -April, the central banking authorities plan to make an economic performance evaluation 2025 and 2026.
