In the absence of responses from the Ministry of Health to the increase in salary, health They will block for three days several points of the country To demand that the provisions of article 140 of the General Budget Law of Revenue and Expenditures of the State for Fiscal Year 2025, Decree 36-2024.
They also claim the delivery of an economic incentive for all personnel, reclassification and transfer of contractors to permanent line, points that are contemplated in the regulations.
Affiliates from the National Trade Unions of Health Workers of Guatemala (SNTSG) and National San Juan de Dios will participate in the demonstrations. Each group will manifest on different days.
The SNTSG convened so that on Monday, March 31from 7 am, its affiliates in several departments of the country are mobilized to strategic points within its jurisdiction and block the roads.
“We had not done it before, but there are many lies of the authorities and we have no other to press,” says Luis Alpirez, leader of the SNTSG.
On Wednesday, March 19, a group of SNTSG workers mobilized in front of the headquarters of the Ministry of Health and withdrew with the promise that they would meet their demands during that week, which did not happen.
“The mobilization will be on Monday with a sustained effect during the week if an agreement is not reached. We no longer need more meetings, what we want is to give us the proposal of how much the increase and salary adjustment will be, when the transfer of the workers and the administrative career begins,” says Alpirez.

According to Carlos Noé Santos Urías, general secretary of the San Juan de Dios National Union, there was a dialogue table with executive representatives to discuss the increase in salary, economic incentive, reclassification and transfer of contractors to permanent line, but It was suspended without an agreement being reached.
“Since they were the ones who broke with the dialogue, now we are not requesting or negotiating, we now demand that article 140 be fulfilled in its entirety,” says Santos Urías, adds that the increase in the salary they demand is Q2 thousand 500 for all workers in the Ministry of Health.
As a pressure measure, the San Juan de Dios National Union summoned its affiliates to express and block the passage on different roads in the country.
