On March 31, Deputy Julio Portillo visited La Unión, Zacapa, to control municipal works. However, after his visit, Mayor Edvin Gustavo Galván published on his social networks that he felt threatened and denounced to have been extorted, as well as contractors working for the commune.

“But that is nothing compared to all the extortion we have received, both my person and the companies that work in the Union,” said the mayor.
He added that they have not accessed the demands of the congressman, who allegedly requests 20% commission in exchange for the projects of the great crusade for nutrition and 10% to access the funds of the Departmental Development Council (CODEDE).
“For fear that something happened to me I had not filed the complaint, but this came out of control by invading municipal autonomy,” Galván wrote.
He also pointed out that Deputy Portillo was accompanied by two people who identified as future candidates for the mayor of La Unión, who intervened in the activity distributing bags with rice to the children.
“That will not solve the problem of the municipality,” warned the mayor.
He also held the legislator responsible for any attack against his physical integrity and that of his family.
“He locked me once where they sell cement, ahead of Valle Dorado,” Galván denounced.
The accusations were made by Mayor Galván through Facebook. For this note it was tried to contact the mayor directly, but did not attend the calls, or the messages.
Deputy rejects accusations
Deputy Portillo, about the accusations made by the mayor of the Union after his visit, said he decided to file a complaint against the mayor for the crimes of defamation and abuse of authority.
According to the congressman, what is published by Galván is false, so he invited the mayor to present the evidence before the Public Ministry, instead of doing so through social networks.
“The complaints are made in the MP and not on Facebook, because to report one you have to have evidence. They take off my prejudice, for that we are,” said the legislator.
Portillo, who won his seat for the Cabal Party, also accused the mayor of using the Community Development Councils (COCODE) to misinform about the findings made during the control.
He claimed to have evidenced possible anomalies in six constructions carried out by the commune of La Unión, Zacapa, and pointed out that there is nepotism, since relatives of the mayor work in the municipality.
He recalled that in August 2021 Fredy Cordón Galván, brother of the mayor, was allegedly killed by ties with drug trafficking.
The deputy expressed his fear of being involved if something happened to the mayor, by “his enemies.”
