April 6 veins
During Lent and Holy Week, the Altars of Velation in Antigua Guatemala become expressions of sacred faith and art. Made with carpets of sawdust, corozo, flowers and fabrics, these spaces frame the images of the Nazarene and the Virgin of Dolores, and offer the faithful a place of contemplation and recollection.
Considered a form of visual catechesis, this religious tradition arrived in Guatemala in the first third of the twentieth century and, since the 1940s, adopted its own style in Antigua Guatemala, a city declared Cultural Heritage of Humanity.
