The Municipal Traffic Police of Guatemala launched its plan for Lent and Holy Week 2025, which includes services for drivers circulating in the capital city.

The Metropolitan Entity regulating Transportation and Transit (Emetra) and the Municipal Traffic Police (PMT) of Guatemala have implemented the Emetra-PMT Lent 2025 planwith which they offer services to drivers who transit in the capital city.

According to the Municipality of Guatemalathis strategy is integral to guarantee safe and orderly mobility in the city.

The plan is already underway, especially in the Historic Centerwhere a Mass influx of people during the most important days of the Major Weekwith multiple religious and cultural activities, the commune explained.

Emetra actions and services during Lent and Holy Week

The capital commune indicated that it will implement a set of measures to guarantee order, prevent congestion and facilitate the circulation of vehicles and pedestrians, especially in the areas of greatest impact by Processional courtships and religious activities.

Monitoring, supervision and traffic control

  • Traffic Control Center: Real -time monitoring from the Emetra Control Center, in coordination with the PMT, for regulation, traffic management and road emergency care.
  • Drone supervision: Surveillance drones will be displayed to evaluate vehicular flow and anticipate congestion points.

Crane operation and vehicular regulation

  • Crajas plan: A crane deployment will be implemented in four strategic sectors for the removal of poorly parked vehicles or obstructing mobility, especially in processional routes.
  • Parking control: the correct use of the qualified temporary parking lots will be supervised, ensuring that they are used in an orderly manner.
  • Application of CEPOS: drivers will be sanctioned with the restrictions established in the areas with limited or high pedestrian influx.

Mobility and public transport

  • Tubus during Holy Week: Coordination with the EMT to enable Special Routes of Tubus on Holy Thursday and Good Friday until 1.00 hours, guaranteeing accessible public transport for attendees.
  • Perimeter and access routes: Implementation of a perimeter transport service that transferred the attendees from temporary parking to the processional points in the historic center.
  • Use of scooters for agents: incorporation of the Scooters Plan, with agents in electric scooters for agile patrol in the historic center and high pedestrian traffic areas.
  • Inspection equipment reinforcement: supervision of compliance with traffic regulations, parking monitoring, closed streets and vehicular restriction areas.

Road Assistance and Emergency Response

  • Road support: road assistance with rapid response motorcycles is reinforced, ready to attend transit emergencies and mechanical failures on processional routes.
  • Coordination with emergency bodies: joint work with municipal firefighters, Red Cross and rescue bodies to immediately respond to road incidents or medical emergencies.

Communication and dissemination of information

  • Mobility alert system: Real -time information will be issued on closures, alternate routes and vehicular congestion through the digital channels of Emetra and PMT.
  • Interactive Mobility Map: A map will be published with the main restricted routes, parking areas and recommended routes.
  • Field information points: Assistance modules will be installed in key areas to guide citizens on routes and access.
