The General Directorate of Road Protection and Safety reported that the vehicular passage continues at kilometer 279 of the CA-13 route, in San Antonio Sejá, Lívingston, Río Dulce, Izabal.
According to local media, the blockade began on Monday, April 7 and is headed by residents of about 54 communities. The demonstration has generated long lines of heavy transport vehicles.
Protesters have placed branches and other obstacles to preventing circulation. The transport of several products is paralyzed, and numerous travelers have not been able to reach their destination.
The Travelers on Ruta reported on Facebook that the protest is in rejection of an alleged mining activity in the area.
Likewise, local pages report another blockade in the San Pablo Community village, which prevents the passage towards the Northern Transversal Strip. The demonstration would be related to the nonconformity of the communities with the municipal administration of Fray Bartolomé de las Casas, Alta Verapaz.
