Guatemalan mountaineer Jaime Viñals achieved a Guinness record by ascending 14 volcanoes in 15 days.

Viñals established on Monday, April 7, a Guinness record for Guatemala by ascending 14 volcanoes in a period of 15 days. This feat also earned him recognition as a distinguished visitor from Antigua Guatemala.
The Guinness record reached by Viñals adds to the conquest of Mount Everest, a feat achieved in 2001 that made it the first Central American to reach that top.
During the journey, the mountaineer amounted to volcanoes of more than 3,000 meters high, and culminated the challenge on Monday in the water volcano, located in Santa María de Jesús, Sacatepéquez.
“Everyone is difficult for physical demand. You have to take it easy, at a good pace, and not to despair. I am very happy, very grateful for giving me the opportunity to do so,” said Viñals.
In Antigua Guatemala, the recognition of the world record was carried out, and Viñals was also named distinguished from the colonial city.
Volcanoes promoted by vineyards
Tacaná and Tajumulco, in the department of San Marcos; Seven ears, Santa María, Cerro Quemado, Santo Tomás and Zunil, in Quetzaltenango; Cuxliquel, in Totonicapán; San Pedro, Atitlán and Tolimán, in Sololá; Fire and Acatenango, in Chimaltenango; and the water volcano, in Sacatepéquez.
