Migration reported what the requirements in the express window of the La Aurora airport will be for the extension of the validity of defeated passports.

The Guatemalan Institute of Migration (IGM) reported that, to support the Guatemalans who travel abroad, the possibility of extending the validity of the ordinary passport, defeated or close to beating, for 18 months at the time at the La Aurora International Airport, as of Friday, April 11, 2025.
He explained that this is a service available only for passengers in case of emergency with expired passport or for winning.
He indicated that it will be a permanent service and will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
The IGM clarified that the validity extension does not apply to passports issued to minors who have reached the age of majority, or for those issued before 2013.
Nor does it extend to passports in poor condition or to those who present changes in marital status.
Requirements to use this new service
Older than 18 years
- Personal identification document (DPI) in force and in good condition, legible copy (both sides on a single sheet).
- ORDINARY PASSPORT ORDERED OR TO CONSIDE, WITH A MINIMUM OF TWO BLANK SHEET (FOUR Pages).
Girls, boys and adolescents
- Valid or win passport, with a minimum of two blank sheets (four pages).
- Current birth certificate.
- Current DPI and in good condition of those who exercise legal representation, legible copy (both sides on a single sheet).
- Document that accredits the legal representation and authorization of the legal representatives, if applicable.
- Death certificate in case of the death of one or both parents.

In other information, the IGM indicated that the central offices and passport issuance centers will be closed by Holy Week holiday on April 15 to 18, with the exception of aerial, sea and land border posts. He added that work will resume on April 21 during normal schedule.
