The state of Florida presented charges for attempted murder and terrorism against Ryan Routh, arrested by US justice for trying to kill President Donald Trump last September, when he was in his golf club in West Palm Beach, state prosecutor James Uthmeier reported Thursday.
The positions announced by the Florida prosecutor are added to those already raised by the Department of Justice in a federal case against Routh.
My office accuses Mr. Routh to attempted first -degree murder of President Trump. In addition, he accuses him of terrorism, said Uthmeier.
The prosecutor said that the state of Florida faced “important obstacles” to present the state accusation against the suspect during the mandate of former president Joe Biden (2021-2025).
“Biden and his Attorney General tried to frustrate our efforts and block our investigation into the man who crossed this state and tried to commit acts of political violence against a resident of Florida,” said the Republican prosecutor.
Routh, 58, was arrested on September 15 in a golf course owned by the US president, where a secret service agent discovered it armed with a semi -automatic rifle hidden behind a row of shrubs.
After being divided, he fled the scene, but was arrested the same day of the events. He has also been accused of the crimes of possession of a firearm and possession of a weapon with the serial number deleted, in relation to the attempted murder.
The man, who in a handwritten letter recognized his intention to commit the crime and regretted having failed, declared himself not guilty of the five federal positions that he already faced, including attempt to murder of an important presidential candidate, possession of a weapon to promote a violent crime and aggression to a federal official.
The trial in the federal case is scheduled to start next September. It is expected that, after that process, it will be judged by state laws.
Last year, the Florida Prosecutor’s Office had already issued an arrest warrant against him.
