According to documents from the extinct International Commission against Impunity in Guatemala (CICIG), William Santos Divas It was the ringleader of a structure dedicated to the sicariate to whom the murder of the lawyer is attributed Rodrigo Rosenberg Marzano.
Santos Divas arrived on September 26, 2018 at the Farm Rehabilitation Model Pavón and began alliances with other inmates, until he became the head of sector 5 “A”, authorities said.
In that sector, the National Civil Police (PNC) seized 14 firearms, ammunition, drugs and cashon April 10.
Santos Divas was supposedly one of the leaders charged by the so -called Talacha within that prison, according to the investigators of the case.
They added that the quotas of the Talacha and the power of Santos Divas within Pavón had increased, facts that generated complaints from the inmates towards the authorities of the Penitentiary System (SP).
In addition, Santos Divas possibly had connections with the prison guards to be able to enter the illicit, facts investigating the Public Ministry after the requisition of April 10, 2025.
The SP authorities claimed that all prison centers had received several complaints of anomalies and illegalities that were occurring in Pavón and, after an analysis, the transfer of Santos Divas to another penalty was carried out.
Sergio Vela, general director of the Penitentiary System, commented that when they entered Pavón, a group of deprived of liberty of sector 5 “A”, which directs Santos Divas, was not satisfied and shot at the SP guards and PNC agents.
“We managed to enter the sector, we managed to calm people and, unfortunately, three inmates were injured and were transferred to a hospital,” said Vela.

On July 15, 2010, the First Criminal Court sentenced those responsible for the murder of Rodrigo Rosenberg.
The 38 -year penalty against Santos Divas, Edwin Idelmo López and Lucas Josué Santiago López was for the crimes of murder and illicit association.
José Armando Ruano Gaitán was convicted of the crimes of murder, illegal association and illegal possession of weapons to a 48 -year penalty; Bayron Estuardo Santos Divas, Balmoris Guzmán Orellana and Samuel Girón Cobar, by illegal association, to an 8 -year penalty; and Miguel de Jesús Ordóñez Barrios, by illegal association, to a penalty of 10 years and 8 months.
While Jesús Manuel Cardona Medina, for being an effective collaborator of the Public Ministry and the CICIG, purged a penalty of 12 years and 8 months for murder and illicit association.
The judges found the nine subjects guilty for being involved in Rosenberg’s murder.
