Eliana Yac, 56 and her grandson Jhosman Josibel Paz García, 2 years and 7, died when a boat died that transferred the family to Rio Dulce.
At the edge of midnight on Holy Thursday a family returned from Playa Blanca to Río Dulce in a boat. The agitated sea and a mechanical failure in the motor of the vehicle combined to give way to the tragedy.
The Caribbean Naval Command rescue 9 people and the recovery of the two bodies, between seven altars and quehueche, Livingston, Izabal.
Marco Tulio Paz, 55, grandfather of the deceased minor told the Bahía Local Radio Station, the moments of anguish they lived and the supposed negligence of the boat pilot, who survived and fled.
The grandfather acknowledged that at the beginning of the trip they had doubts about continuing because “the tide was very heavy,” however, the boat pilot reassured them. “Don’t be sorry, I return them, I know how the thing is here,” he told them.
The family agreed and began the trip back to Río Dulce.
“On the way we asked him to leave us in Livingston, in that at one point the engine was turned off and the pilot tried to repair it. My wife with fear asked me to better call someone to help us and had us there about half an hour. He called, but I don’t know who he called,” the grandfather recalled.
According to the story, as time passed and the engine did not start, the waves collided with the boat and more and more entered water into the boat.
“From the beginning we lied to us. We warned him that the water was entering and he said he had put a pump to remove the water, but it was not so. When we felt, there was a lot of water and we began to take it out, but the waves followed,” recalled the survivor.
The boat finally sank and one last wave turned the boat and the family succumbed. “The vests were not so safe, I was sailed,” said the grandfather.
