The United States vice president, JD Vance, said on Wednesday, April 23 that it was “quite crazy” to meet with the Pope Francis a few hours before his death, becoming the last high foreign position that saw the pontiff alive.
“I have thought about that a lot. It was quite crazy. Obviously when I saw it I did not know that less than 24 hours left on Earth. I think it was a great blessing, ”Vance told the press in India before addressing his flight back to Washington.
“I could see it briefly on the morning of Easter Sunday. I knew I was very sick. I hadn’t realized how sick I was “he explained.
The vice president, who is Catholic, said that He will always remember Francisco as “a great shepherd” and a defender of “marginalized people, the poor and the sick.”
Vance also remained importance to the Pope’s criticism towards the hard -hand policy against immigration promoted by the administration of Donald Trump.
“I am aware that he had some disagreements with some policies of our administration. It also coincided a lot with some of them. I will not stain his legacy talking about politics. I think it was a great Christian shepherd, and that’s how I choose to remember the Holy Father, ”he said.
