The Peasant Development Committee (CODECA) announced national mobilizations for next Monday, April 28 for the “criminalization” in the country, after the capture of Vice Minister Luis Pacheco, as indicated in a press conference.

Luis Pacheco, former president of the 48 cantons of Totonicapán and current Vice Minister of Sustainable Development of the Ministry of Energy and Mines, was arrested on April 23, according to the Public Ministry (MP).

The investigating entity published the results of the proceedings carried out by the Prosecutor’s Office against organized crime in zone 1 of the capital. “The capture of Luis Haroldo Pacheco Gutiérrez and Héctor Manuel Chaclán Batz was achieved,” the MP published.

The day of arrest, the current directive of the 48 cantons of Totonicapán said that Pacheco’s capture is a persecution against indigenous peoples who have expressed in favor of democracy.

At this Friday’s conference, Codca said it is solidarity with the 48 cantons of Totonicapán for registered arrests.

They added that in Monday’s mobilizations they will also demand that the deputies repeal the salary increase, and will demonstrate against a law of waters, evictions and the actions of the MP attorney general.

Until now, Codca has confirmed mobilizations in 18 departments, especially in the capital.

The trajectory of the mobilizations and the meeting points are not yet defined, they will determine them during the weekend at a meeting in Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez.

This April 25 behind closed doors begins the first statement of Luis Pacheco, former president of the 48 cantons, and Héctor Chaclán in the court on duty. The hearing is in charge of Judge Carol Patricia Flores.
