Three children born in American territory, aged 2 and 7, were deported along with their mothers to Honduras last Saturday, April 26. Given this situation, according to various US media, cases have generated great concern in organizations defending migratory rights.

According to the American Union for Civil Liberties (ACLU, in English), the captures and deportations of these three mothers with their children were held after the routine meetings that women had scheduled with officials of the Immigration and Customs Control Service (ICE) in the state of Louisiana.

Hondurans allegedly were part of the Intensive Supervision Appearance Program (ISAPin English), an alternative to the ICE detention program, which allows immigrants not to remain detained while waiting for their courts in the court, attending two weekly meetings.

Likewise, the National Immigration Project expressed concern about this situation and publicly assured that “these deportations have become an alarming example of the way in which migratory procedures are being managed” during the new administration of US President Donald Trump.

Deported with metastatic cancer

American organizations working for the rights of immigrants consider that these deportations “were very hurried”, so the federal judge of Louisiana, Terry Doughty, scheduled a hearing for Friday, May 16, with the aim of clarifying the situation of these deportations.

We must dissipate the firm suspicion that ICE has just deported three Americans without due process. The law prohibits the deportation of citizens and the government argues that this is normal because mothers wanted minors to go with them, but the court does not know if this is true, Judge Doughty argued.

Subsequently, during the morning of this Monday, April 28, it was publicly announced that one of the children expelled, the 4 -year -old, “has a rare form of metastatic cancer and was deported to Honduras without medication or health care,” according to the National Immigration Project (NIP, in English).

In this case, the son of the Honduran migrant Jenny Carolina López Villela suffers from a cancer that occurs when cancer cells spread from the original tumor site to other parts of the body. “Cancer cells can travel through the bloodstream and form new tumors in different organs,” added the NIP.

Despite criticism, the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio, argues that these cases “are misunderstanding”, because, according to him, the three minor American citizens were not deported; Instead, it was their mothers who were deported, and they decided to take their children to Honduras.

“American citizens of 4, 7 and 2 years were not deported; their mothers, who were illegally in this country, were deported. The children left with their mothers because they decided. The three minors, when they grow up, can return without problems because they have that right,” Rubio added in an interview.
