The San Juan de Dios General Hospital received two offers for the lease of a tomograph that allows them to restore the service that was interrupted in early April by a breakdown of the only team that was in operations.
Among the bidders figure QHA Guatemala, Sociedad Anónima, which presents a price of Q33 thousand 221 For a Stermed brand tomograph. According to the Guatecompras portal, this year has provided services to the Ministry of Health and the Guatemalan Social Security Institute (IGSS) for Q212 thousand 621.
The other contestant is Guatemalan Distributor, Sociedad Anónima (Disgua), whose offer is Q8 million 500 thousand for a Fujifilm brand team. He has also served this year to the Ministry of Health and the IGSS for Q24 million 461 thousand 309.
The variation in the amounts offered could have to do with the rental period. The hospital requires the lease per day, with the option to buy the equipment.
An apparatus with continuous operation is sought in 24 hours, seven days a week, and that must be installed within the hospital, according to the technical specifications of the contest published in Guatecompras. In addition, it is noted that the tomograph must have multi -cut scan, up to 64 or more.
The contractor must take care of the pre -installation and installation of the equipment, in a period of eight weeks, without this representing an additional cost for the hospital.
Both proposals of the lease, with the option to purchase, will be analyzed by those in charge of the issue in the hospital, within five to 10 days, as established in article 21 of the Regulation of the State Contracting Law.
Contracted services
The hospital also published two competitions to hire the computerized tomographic service, each for 214 studies with contrast medium. Only in one of the events the proposal of an offeror was received, The London Clinic for an amount of Q89 thousand 880.
The contest bases indicated that the Diagnostic Center must be 3 kilometers or less away from the hospital, in addition to programming appointments for patients between 6.30 and 16.00 Monday to Friday, and from 6.30 to 12.00 on weekends, and deliver the report of the images via email in a time less than 24 hours.214

The outsourcing of the service is one of the solutions that the hospital authorities have found not to disregard the population when a diagnostic tomography is required. The London Clinic has been conducting studies through a contract of Q89 thousand 880.
The Hospital Social Communication Department said there is a budget for both the payment of the services hired and for the rental of the equipment.
Repair
The tomograph donated by Japan, who broke down after the guarantee on October 31, 2024, must be repaired. The hospital indicated that Disgua presented A quote by Q696 thousand 640 for the arrangement; Previously, Q90 was paid for diagnosis.
This company has an official representation in the country of the Fujifilm brand, the same as the damaged team, so it is the only one that the work can be carried out, which could take five to six months, since, due to the amount of the repair, a contribution event must be held.
Before the expiration of the team guarantee, the hospital managed the search for other companies that could maintain the tomograph, however, only Disgua can carry out the work, so, in the end, they are obliged to make this company perform the service.
Disgua also participates in the contest to lease the tomograph. The director of the hospital, Érika Pérez, said during a meeting with deputies of the Vos bench – who arrived at the health center – that The company offers to install it “immediately”.

Few tomographs
The portfolio also reported that in the public hospital network there are 12 tomographs to serve the population, and of these, two are under repair: that of Quiché and that of the General San Juan de Dios Hospital.
Before the consultation of why not all hospitals have a tomograph, it was indicated that this is due to the way they are categorized, since not all are designed to offer the same services. The categorization depends on the complexity of attention, the population they attend, the available resources, the resolutive capacity and the portfolio of services they provide.
The purchase of equipment for hospitals could be made through the agreement signed with the United Nations Office for Projects (UNOPS), the authorities of the Ministry of Health have indicated. However, it is hospitals, as executing units, which must make the requirement, since each one is responsible for the use and acquisitions they carry out with their resources.
