The incident was recorded this Friday, May 2 while the Veraneans enjoyed the loaf for Labor Day. The family, composed of 10 people, had traveled from Quiché to spend the day on the beach, when armed men approached the back of the ranch where they rested and opened fire, according to witnesses.

In the place two people died: Manuel de Jesús Vicente, 23, and a man identified only as Juan, who was driving the vehicle in which the family was traveling. A woman identified as María Ordóñez Vásquez was gunshot wounded and was transferred to the National Hospital of Retalhuleu.

“We came from the village Río Blanco and we don’t know what happened. We were seeing towards the sea when they only arrived and fired, as soon as we saw them. My cousin and our driver died in the place,” said Claudia Isabel Tiu Ordonez.

Volunteer firefighters from the 11 company transferred María Ordóñez, who presented multiple gunshot wounds, and attended other family members who suffered nervous breakdown.

Agents of the National Civil Police cordoned off the area, while Public Ministry personnel carried out the lifting of the bodies and collected evidence in the crime scene.
