On Thursday, May 1, Marquense’s team defeated FC communications 2-0 in the first leg of the quarterfinals of Closing Tournament 2025 of the National League of Guatemala, thus consuming one of the most surprising results of the day, since the San Marcos team, already descended to the First Division, is located just 90 minutes from being semifinalist.
The triumph of the lions cannot be understood without the work of the Costa Rican coach Hernán Medford, to whom their players attributed the merit of having raised the duel against communications.
Kennedy Rocha, one of the game’s scorers, gave statements to the media after the victory and said that the result was due to the coach’s work and also to the attitude of Marquense’s players.
“Today a result was achieved, it was a great approach of the teacher, it was good and we corresponded. We worked and did what we had in mind,” he explained.
“We are going with a good result, but we have not won anything. You have to respect, more to a big team like creams,” he continued.
On his offensive work and his involvement in the victory of the team, Rocha said that it is part of his work and that he will seek to repeat his performance in the return meeting.
“It’s my job, I have to run and kill me there. The last game here was not so solvent, thank God we have improved,” he said.
The return meeting between Marquense and Communications is scheduled for Sunday, May 4, at 6:00 p.m., at the Cementos Progreso Stadium in Guatemala City.
