Insivumeh Alert about sudden flooding risk in Quiché, while rain and heat persist in the country

The National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) predicted that, from this weekend until May 5, there will be warm and humid environment conditions in most of the national territory.

It is expected that, during the first hours of the day and at night, there is presence of fog or mist, while, in the afternoon and night, cloudiness will increase, accompanied by possible rains and electrical activity, especially from the south to the center of the country.

He adds that moisture entry is expected from both coastlines, with periods of partial cloudiness and some drizzles or scattered rains.

The forecast José María Rodríguez indicated that, towards the west of the country, “temperatures could vary between 8 and 12 degrees Celsius”, while the capital is expected minimum temperatures of between 15 and 18 degrees Celsius.

Rodríguez explained that the regions with older rain accumulated are currently the Bocacosta, the South West and the rest of the southern coast, where the rainy season has already started.

The departments that present this constant rainfall pattern, added, are San Marcos, Quetzaltenango, Retalhuleu, Quiché, Escuintla and Suchitepéquez.

Alert in Quiché

In addition, an alert for Quiché has been issued due to the possibility of increasing the levels of the Motagua and Salinas rivers, because of the intense rains planned for the area.

Finally, Rodríguez pointed out that severe local storms, which generate rain and electrical activity, and temporarily strong rain, will be recorded south of the country.

Hot environment and atmospheric pressure

According to the forecast, the descent of atmospheric pressure is expected, which favors a hot at the national scale.

The highest temperatures will be registered north of the country, in the transverse strip of the north and in the Caribbean, where the rainy season will begin in the second half of May.

The hot atmosphere will predominate in regions such as Petén, Zacapa and the Pacific, where maximum temperatures of between 37 ° C and 40 ° C are expected. Insivumeh recommends limiting outdoor exposure between 10.00 and 16.00, when the highest levels of solar radiation are recorded.
