How to read the electric power bill and what other charges includes

Apart from the collection for consumption per kilowatt, electricity hour, if the user is affectionate to the subsidy is also detailed in the invoice.

This document also includes a fixed position for the service provided by the distributor, the Value Added Tax (VAT) and the municipal rate for public lighting.

Derived from it, we announce how a monthly bill is read.

EEGSA

In the electricity company of Guatemala, SA (EEGSA), the head of the invoice identifies the distributor, the tax identification number (NIT), the address and other data, as well as the invoice number.

In addition to other data such as:

  1. Invoice number: the fiscal registration number and is composed of the series and invoice number.
  2. Correlative and Accountant: It is the correlative number of customers and the number or identification of the counter. According to the distributor, they are vital to identify your service before EEGSA and recommend having those data at hand to consult or place complaints or notices.
  3. Customer data: name, address and nit of the person who has hired the service against EEGSA
  4. Total to pay: corresponds to the total amount to be paid according to the client’s consumption for the electricity service that EEGSA has provided in a month, or within the period indicated in the invoice.
  5. Detail of the charges: Includes the detail of the charges that are charged in the monthly bill of electricity consumption as a fixed charge for service, cost of the energy consumed, VAT and municipal rate.
  6. Mora and Expiration positions: Here is the deadline or last day that the user has to pay for his invoice. In this way it will avoid charges for default and cut of the service for lack of payment. Recommends paying at least two days of the expiration date detailed there.
  7. Consumer history: Find the data of the most recent four months to compare the tendency of its Kilovatios Hora consumption (kWh).

At the bottom of the invoice is the phone number to contact the distributor, or can also be contacted by digital media, including electronic page and its mobile application.

How can you read the charges

The example to mention positions for EEGSA users can be a social rate user who consumes 75 kilowatts hour a month.

The social rate for EEGSA from May to July 2025 is Q1.42 per kWh per month.

Subscriber content

The number of kilowatts consumed, in this example we choose 75 kWh.

A subsidy is applied to the IND to users who consume 0 to 100 kWh per month, in this case as a user who used 75 kWh, does apply subsidy.

Then the number of kilowatts consumed, the KWh rate, and the total, also the subsidy discount (to whom it does not apply that benefit does not appear that amount does not appear) and the subtotal of energy charges. To that is added the fixed monthly position for the service of the distributor, and then the total to be paid.

With data we can mention that for an EEGSA user, in the municipality of Guatemala, who consumes 75 kilowatts time (kWh) the cost of energy is Q106.43, this is subtracted Q15.12 of the subsidy, so that of energy must pay Q91.31

To that amount should be added Q11.20 of the fixed position per user who charges the distributor per month, so the total position is Q102.51 in the month after the subsidy applied.

To this is added other positions, such as 12% of the Value Added Tax (VAT) that represents Q13.61 plus the rate for the public lighting service than for the municipality of the example is in 13%, which gives Q13.33.

Its total to pay in a month is Q129.45, according to the estimated example in the National Energy Commission calculator.

Energuate

For Energuate companies such as Electricity Distributor of the West, SA (DEOCSA) and Electricity Distributor of the East, SA (Deorsa), the data included are the same as in the EEGSA document only ordered in a different way, or with additional data.

The data of the distributor are identified at the top and these details appear:

  1. Customer data: Name of the person who has a contract with the distributor, address and identifier.
  2. Other data: NIS, invoice number, month, NIT, and broadcast date.
  3. Consumption: On the left appears the total to be paid and the maximum suggested date of payment.
  4. Amount: To the center, the amounts in Quetzales of the charges such as: electricity consumption, public lighting rate, amount for payment of the agreement if it possesses it and amount of invoices not paid if it had late.
  5. Consumption: On the right appears the data of energy consumption per month in kilowatt hour month.
  6. Consumer history: In this case the distributors have a timely payment history with the six -month data.
  7. Reading period: Includes the reading period and announces the date of the next reading. Also type of consumption, meter or accountant number, data of the previous reading and current reading, as well as consumption in KWh. Below identifies in which rate segment is whether social or non -social and the amount of the rate plus VAT.
  8. Other positions: details the concept of billing, such as the fixed position with VAT, energy consumption with VAT, contribution or subsidy to the social rate of Inde with VAT, and use a space for rounding of figures of the current month and the previous month. They present the subtotal, to that add up to the public lighting rate, which varies at home municipality, and from there the total bill of the month is derived.

Example

For a Deocsa user, in the municipality of Sololá, department of Sololá, the rate is Q2.09 per kWh per month. For the example, the user consumes 75 kilowatts hour (kWh) so the cost of energy is Q157.09, however, after applying the subsidy, Q66.20 is subtracted, so that of energy must pay Q90.89.

To that amount must be added Q22.85 which is the fixed position per user charged by the distributor per month, so the total position is Q113.74 per month after the subsidy applied. To this is added Q13.65 of the Value Added Tax (VAT), plus the rate for the Public Lighting Service of Q25.59.

Its total to pay in a month is Q153, according to the calculator that is available for the user on the electronic page of the National Electric Power Commission (CNEE).

The contribution of the subsidy is calculated according to the criteria applied by the IND. The public lighting rate is approved by each municipal council for each municipality. VAT is 12%.
