The president of Guatemala, Bernardo Arévalo, spoke on May 9 at a press conference on Robert Prevost’s recent appointment as the new Pope, who will be called Leo XIV.

At the press conference that takes place in the National Palace, Arévalo began sending a greeting to the new Pope Leo XIV, in addition to sending “his best wishes in his pastoral leadership.”

“That the ideals of peace, fraternity and unity always guide their steps. We have already heard their first words that have put centrality in the need for peace for all peoples of the world,” said Arévalo.
