Villagers of San Francisco Zapotitlán have exterminated their concern for pest of flies that affects them.

Residents of San Francisco Zapotitlán, Suchitepéquez, have complained about an unusual increase in the proliferation of flies In the municipality.
They affirmed that this situation mainly affects shops where prepared foods and local markets are sold, which puts consumer health at risk.
After the complaints, an inter -institutional technical table was established to coordinate actions and eradicate the flies pest. In addition, they analyze the possible causes of this plague.
Yanelis González, coordinator of the Local Health Center, indicated that the paintings of the endemic corridor of the last five years do not reflect an increase in cases of diseases transmitted by flies.
However, there is concern about some outbreak because of the large number of these insects currently.
Víctor Rivera, from the Suchitepéquez Health Area, informed that they established mitigation measures to this problem and that the Ministry of Health issued recommendations for the population in order to avoid an outbreak of gastrointestinal diseases.
On May 23, the second meeting will be held to verify the effectiveness of mitigation measures and establish the cause of the problem.
Recommendations
- Temporarily suspend the food served in the schools of the municipality due to the possibility of contamination in food, thus seek to protect students.
- Strengthen information campaigns for proper food management by merchants and in educational centers, this in order to extreme hygiene measures in food preparation.
- Suspend massive concentrations where food is prepared or provided to settlers.
- The Ministry of Environment will verify that the fertilizers used by the farms of the municipality are registered in the Ministry of Agriculture and are handled properly.
