This Sunday, May 11, 2025, Easter room and known as the “Domingo del Buen Pastor”a metropolitan cathedral was held in the Metropolitan Cathedral Special Mass in Thanksgiving for the choice of the new Pope Leo XIV.
The ceremony was chaired by Monsignor Gonzalo de Villa, Metropolitan Archbishopwho highlighted the missionary vocation of the Pontiff.

During the homily, De Villa also linked the figure of the new Pontiff with the reading of the day, in which Paul and Bernabé announce the gospel beyond the Jewish world.
“The Church is universal, it cannot be locked in its own processions; we are called to come out,”he emphasized.
De Villa stressed that the mission of Pablo and Bernabé, who marked a fundamental turn in nascent Christianity, is still alive today in the work of missionaries around the world.
“What we see in the life of Pope Leo XIV is the continuation of that legacy, to go beyond the borders, to meet the most needy, to open everyone, as Francisco did, but with his own style”He said.
The choice of the new Pope was held just 17 days after Francisco.
“We were 17 orphaned days, but today we thank because we have Pope again”said El Prelate, who asked the faithful A applause in honor of Leo XIV and raised a sentence so that God strengthens him in his new mission as a shepherd of the Catholic Church.

De Villa also recalled the importance of The universal unity and mission of the Churche invited all Catholics to collaborate in the evangelizing work.
“The Christian’s path is not only in the churches; you have to go out to the streets, to the furthest corners, and take the message of hope to each person”he concluded.
