The Ministry of Education (MINEDUC) has received 680 complaints, you enter those that indicate that teachers have not reached schools to teach or have not fulfilled the established schedule.
The reports are from Monday 12 to Thursday, May 22, and arrived through telephone number 1503 and the Institutional Website.
According to the MINEDUC, the claims are grouped into three categories: Closed schools without justification, absent teachers without valid cause and teachers who report pressures and illegal charges by the leadership of the Union of Education Workers of Guatemala (Steg) so that they do not appear to their work or are absent to participate in mobilizations towards departmental headwaters and the city of Guatemala.
The Ministry indicates that it verifies and collates each complaint with the reports of the Departmental Directorates of Education or through the corresponding investigation.
Since May 19, STEG affiliates are in permanent assembly, which implies that teachers meet in a headquarters to define which strategies will follow; Therefore, they suspend classes. The call is indefinitely and will remain in force until its demands are placed, according to messages disseminated in social networks.
In this regard, the MINEDUC authorities have indicated that, according to their monitoring, about 16% of educational establishments closed to participate in the assembly.
The permanent assembly responds to the nonconformity of trade unionists for the 5% increase for teachers that the Ministry announced on April 30, and the increase of Q400 for administrative staff. In addition, they point out that the decision was “unilateral” and that it was not discussed in the negotiation of the new collective pact of working conditions of the teaching.
#Release | The teaching deserves decent conditions; The country deserves schools. This ministry will continue to act firmly, within the legal framework, so that every day of class it is fulfilled throughout the national territory.#EblodignoEsPrimero pic.twitter.com/kcNKx1BPPW
