The President of the Republic, Bernardo Arévalo, at conference From the press this Monday, June 2, he referred to the restructuring in the dome of the Ministry of the Interior (Mingob).

The president indicated that in recent weeks a rebound has been observed in the rates of homicides and violent facts, and, according to him, they are not ignoring this situation.

He explained that, beyond identifying this rise and the factors that cause it, they understand that their responsibility as a government is to “provide peace and security”, as well as reverse the increase in acts of violence.

“Security is a national priority of Guatemalan society as a whole, it is not only a priority of the government and that is why we are taking concrete steps, steps that are protected in a strategic vision and have the objective of being sustainable to counteract this scourge,” he said.

He said: “For that we are restructuring the teams in the Ministry of the Interior and step to present today the restructuring we have made within the team.”

He presented the new Vice Minister of Security, José Portillo; to the Vice Minister Claudia Palencia, in charge of the Vice Ministry of Anti -Narcotics, and the new director of the Penitentiary System, Ludin Godínez.

According to Arévalo, with this new team, the Minister of the Interior, Francisco Jiménez, has the responsibility of redesigning the operational strategy to give an effective response to the phenomenon of violence.

He pointed out that this “adjustment” within the Mingob dome is the beginning of a series of reviews and evaluations of the equipment.

According to Arévalo, the team “has a fundamental task that is to build and implement a new strategy to combat crime with concrete results that deliver greater security to the people of Guatemala, because without security the well -being of people erodes and our democracy weakens.”

“It is clear that we need to adjust efforts to be able to give the results we need,” he emphasized.
