Spanish authorities find more than a thousand kilos of cocaine in cardboard cargo from Guatemala

More than a thousand kilos of cocaine that were hidden in a “macrocargly” of 335 tons of cardboard and from Guatemala were intercepted by members of the customs surveillance of the Tax Agency of Spain, as reported by June 2 in an official statement.

According to the report of the Spanish authorities, the cargo of drugs and cardboard were within 14 containers from Guatemala and that reached a port of Barcelona. Authorities indicate that of the 1,190 kilos of seized cocaine, 990 were found in an industrial ship in Madrid. “This is the greatest apprehension of cocaine in this community in the last 20 years,” said the Ministry of Finance of Spain.

After the detection, the Spanish authorities investigate five people involved in the fact, as well as the company in charge of load imports. They also gave details about the operation they carried out to detect the company’s abnormalities in sending drugs hidden in recycled product, an operation they called “Shuko”.

According to the investigations of the Spanish authorities, the company that imported cardboard to recycle operated from Mexico and Guatemala and that, indeed, sold to several Spanish societies dedicated to recycling the product.

“However, the researchers detected that other containers were sent to an industrial ship in Tarragona without any infrastructure to store this type of merchandise, and it was unknown what was the object of these purchases of material,” the authorities said.
