The Ministry of Communications, Infrastructure and Housing (CIV) said that the restriction of passage on the Cito Zarco route is only for heavy transport and that repairs are expedited.
The passage through kilometer 189 of the Cito Zarco route, between Quetzaltenango and the South Coast, is irregular due to road damage caused by the collapse of a containment wall, the CIV reported on Wednesday, June 4.
The portfolio explained that the restriction applies only to heavy transport to prevent the weight and vibration of cargo vehicles aggravating the situation.
The Deputy Minister of Infrastructure, Allan Guevara, indicated that he works at the place to enable the pace as soon as possible.
“We are already attending the emergency at kilometer 189 of the Cito Zarco route. There was a settlement of a retaining wall, which left the slope exposed,” said the official.
He added that the personnel of the road zone 4 and the General Directorate of Caminos work in the place, which is in charge of recovery of the track in that kilometer.
“It is necessary for the Ministry to guarantee transitability. We know it is a complex situation, but we are working to address the emergency as soon as possible,” said Guevara.
For its part, the National Coordinator for Disaster Reduction (Conred) reported that no damage to the affected section is reported and that last Tuesday a landslide that was removed was treated, so the route was expedited.
