Tax collection amounted to Q46 thousand 474.5 million from January to May, which meant a growth of 8.5% compared to the same period last year, when it was Q42 thousand 830 million, according to preliminary figures presented by the tax administrator.

In absolute terms, the increase is Q3 thousand 646 million during the first five months of the year, said Werner Ovalle, head of the Superintendence of Tax Administration (SAT), after participating in the VII International Congress of the Authorized Economic Operator (OAS), which dealt with the facilitation of trade and the actors of the logistics chain.

Preliminary figures realize that foreign trade taxes total Q12 thousand 941 million, and internal taxes, Q33 thousand 533 million, with a variation of 5.4% and 9.8%, respectively.

“A slowdown is being presented, but the collection goals continue to be met; we see some impacts in foreign trade, given that the exchange rate and fuel prices are impacting,” Ovalle justified.

The effect of both variables on the collection system is Q389.4 million to May, which is considered a considerable impact or that has ceased to be received.

On the contrary, rent taxes (ISR) and domestic added value (VAT) are responding positively; These taxes are fundamental for the operation of the public apparatus.

Last May, the Technical Commission of Public Finance (CTFP) established that, by 2025, the collection of Q109 thousand 302 million will be maintained for the central government and Q108 thousand 737 million for the tax administrator, given the international context. By 2026, the estimated amount is Q119 thousand 762 million.

Called to motorists

The Chief of the SAT reminded the motorists the expiration of the vehicle circulation tax (ISCV), which concludes on July 31, since, for the moment, there is no other official provision that extends the deadline.

In 2024, the Congress of the Republic approved an extension to make the tax effective until September 30, which favored motorists.

The amount captured by this tax is Q467.2 million to May, and it is expected that with the payment of the 14 bonus in July the collection will increase.
