340 emergencies report on Guatemala roads and more downpours are expected

In recent days, rains have increased throughout the national territory, considerably different points affecting Due to the floods of rivers, landslides and floods that have deteriorated the road network.

According to data from the Ministry of Communications, until May 16, a total of 340 emergencies have been attended on different routes, caused by the rains.

By the Road Conservation Executing Unit (COVIAL)109 emergencies have been treated in 17 departments.

The most affected departments are:

• Santa Rosa
• Quetzaltenango
• Progress.

In these locations they have presented landslides, falling trees and undercuts that have been treated; In addition, attention has been given to different bridges that were damaged.

The General Directorate of Roads reports the attention of 49 emergencies for rains in 16 departments, being the most affected Chimaltenango, Quiché and Guatemala, where landslides, sinking and collapse of some bridges were recorded.

While the General Directorate of Road Protection and Safety (Provial) reports a total of 182 assists derived from accidents caused by complications associated with the rains, mainly on the CA-1 West, CA-9 North and CA-1 East routes.

Rains will continue

The rains intensified throughout the country during the first days of June, generating floods, floods of rivers and landslides.

The projections of the National Institute of Seismology, Volcanology, Meteorology and Hydrology (Insivumeh) indicate that during the next 48 hours the country will be under the influence of a low pressure system, which will generate an increase in rains, with a chance of evolving tropical depression. Therefore, intense rains are foreseen throughout the national territory.

Likewise, the Guatemalan Meteorological Service of the Marian will increase during this week, From June 16 to 22, as part of the projected cyclonic activity. Citizens are recommended to take measures to any eventuality caused by rains.
