Autism is a condition that is characterized by deficits or development challenges that can especially affect communication, language and socialization. There is talk of autistic spectrum disorders because the characteristics are multiple and varied, and in each person with this condition they manifest differently.
Some children with autistic spectrum disorders have learning difficulties, and some have lower than normal intelligence signs. Other children have an intelligence between normal and high, they learn quickly, although they present difficulties in communicating, applying what they know in daily life and adapt to social situations.
Early diagnosis and therapies are key for people with autism to lead as independent as possible, as well as adequate information in society, which allows their inclusion.
To learn more about this condition, attend the activity organized by the Guatemalan Association for Autism. This will be a transformative space to learn, connect and build a more human and deep look on the autistic spectrum.
There will be national and international guests, including: Ángela Sánchez, neuropsychologist; Kareen Gudiel, certified consultant in intervention for the development of relationships; the psychotherapist Julio Salazar; the pediatric neurologist Carlos Orellana; the specialist psychologist in child development, Bárbara Mejía; and Roberto Martínez, a psychiatrist with a specialty in work with disabilities.
