The Ministry of Health confirms that 16 cases of BARRENOR WORK IN HUMANS, according to report from May 6 to June 16, 2025.

The departments where patients infested with the worm have been detected are Jutiapa, Chiquimula, Suchitepéquez, Santa Rosa, Jalapa and Quiché.
Most cases correspond to older adults; However, in the list there are a minor of 3 years. All patients have received treatment, they are stable, living and recovered, according to the Ministry.
He adds that this disease is not contagious or transmitted between people. The boreride worm can affect humans or animals When the adult fly deposits its eggs on an open and hygiene wound. Therefore, timely prevention and attention are key to avoiding infestation.
The Ministry of Health makes the following recommendations:
- Adequately cover any wound.
- Maintain personal and home hygiene
- Protect yourself in rural environments
- Go to the closest health service in the face of any suspicious injury
